Continuing in our tribute to the Great American Songwriters, The Siskiyou Institute presents vocalist Leslie Kendall with the Ed Dunsavage Trio and special guest Dmitri Matheny on the flugelhorn performing the music of Rogers & Hart. The evenings performance will feature such classics as My Romance, I?ll Take Manhattan, Blue Moon and My Funny Valentine. Celebrated for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique, Dimitri Matheny is lauded as "the first breakthrough flugelhornist since Chuck Mangione" (San Jose Mercury News). First introduced to jazz audiences in the 1990s as the prot?g? of Art Farmer, Matheny has matured into "one of the jazz world's most talented horn players" (San Francisco Chronicle).

Drawing from her multi-ethnic French / Chinese / American upbringing, her music fuses styles and languages, taking the listener on a twisting journey out of the French Chanson tradition, into the lands of gypsy jazz, Chinese and Latin American folk music, and into the wilderness of her imagination

kicks off it's Spring 2012 series with Latin songstress Jessie Marquez and pianist Clay Giberson. They will present an evening of intoxicating Cuban and Brazilian music, incorporating lush harmony, richly textured, sexy, cool and inviting music woven together with stories of life in Havana.
Their latest CD collaboration All I See Is Sky features a textured soundscape alongside the singer?s intimate and understated approach. Jessie was raised on her grandmother's Cuban cooking and family stories of life on the island. She has recorded with members of the Afro Cuban Allstars and performed throughout Cuba. Beat and Medford's Concerts in the Park series. Joe is a Rogue Valley bassist, currently playing with the Ed Dunsavage Trio and Duke Street. He was also a member of popular area bands Nowhere Men and Grooveyard Trio. He and Thad have been friends since they met as 11 year olds in Portland, Oregon.
